A friend of mine had never been to the abandoned Rochester subway but he’s been interested for quite a while and is thinking of setting up some kind of model shoot. He wanted to get an idea of what it looked like first hand so we had planned to head down there Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday came and we noticed on our way downtown that there was a lot of fog or mist hanging just above the ground, particularly where there was still snow or where there was water. The weather was unusually warm, about 60F, and it was melting the snow quickly. It was also raining so this was a trip of firsts for me as far as the subway is concerned. In spite of numerous trips in the past I’ve never gone down there in the winter, when it was raining or as it turns out when the subway is being filled with mist/fog.
I hadn’t really expected to take many photos, having been down there enough times I just wanted to show my friend around and get out in a reasonable amount of time. Instead we wound up spending about an hour down there and I did grab some shots with what I had with me (Rebel XTi, Sigma 30 1.4, Canon 50 1.4, no tripod). I was still trying to make it a short trip but it was definitely an unusual sight to see, the subway filled with mist takes on a very different feel.

In other news I’ve also updated WordPress and done some other general housecleaning that has been long overdue. Getting the current version of NextGEN gallery to work was a bit of fun.
