May 3 Rochester Group Shoot (gallery)

The May 3 Rochester group shoot was a big event planned and hosted by John Larkin and Paul Mattison who are two Rochester area professional photographers. The overall turnout was eighteen photographers and thirteen models and the day started at around 8AM with the first shoot being at 10AM and the last shooting session ended at 6PM. After the last session a number of us met at the Old Toad for food and drinks and to relax (see the picture of Paul stuffing his face in the gallery below). [...]

The price of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 makes me question their sanity

The Panasonic DMC-G1 was not one of my favorite cameras when it was announced. The lousy EVF viewfinder coupled with a price that I think was too high for what it offered did not make for a winning combination. Although I have more issues with it than that, it also lacked HD video recording which should have been an obvious feature to include in the first version and I’m sure gave some consumers pause. [...]

Quick trip to Syracuse in April (gallery)

On the 19th of April I went out to Syracuse to do some exploring and shooting. We checked out Syracuse University and an abandoned factory which is in a pretty sorry state since it seems it’s been a little over ten years since it shut down. Once again I didn’t exactly get anything I loved from the trip but Syracuse Univeristy is definitely worth revisiting because there is potential there that I know I missed. [...]

April 2009 Rochester Flickr meet (gallery)

Being the brilliant bunch we are, the Rochester Flickr group got together again on April 17th to have some Guinness, take photos, have more Guinness and eat some food. We met up at Jimmy Macs in the High Falls area and had ourselves some beer to get the night going. After that everyone scattered, most people seemed to be interested in shooting a few of the local models that had shown up but I went off and shot my own thing as usual. [...]

I lose a little faith in Pentax with the K20D Titanium Edition

I used to think Pentax was a manufacturer that had some sense, but to offer a titanium finish for the roughly $700 K20D at a hefty price premium of around $500 (supposedly) has me thinking otherwise. Of course it does come with the special matching and equally silly vertical grip. You don’t even get the boring black grip with the K20D for $700. I should have known trouble was brewing when they announced that white DSLR. [...]

April – results of some wandering & shooting (Gallery)

Back in mid-April I was feeling like I hadn’t done enough of the shooting that I wanted. I was looking to do some exploring of downtown Rochester to look for the inspiration to get a few more architectural abstracts. I wound up doing just that back on the 16th of April when I walked part of the Rochester riverfront right in the heart of downtown with my friend Dan. [...]
