Nate talked me in to joining him and Laurie to visit an abandoned Agway facility where he wanted to work on trying to achieve the look of Miru Kim’s work. He wanted some help with lighting and other things and we both needed the distraction so I figured I’d join them and try to help him with what he was looking to achieve.
Unfortunately instead of helping Nate get the look he wanted I seemed to wind up shooting a fair bit myself. We’re already talking about heading out at some point and working on doing the Miru Kim style shoot. I’d like to also spend some time with a tripod shooting the Agway facility itself for my own purposes. I think there’s some good potential there for some architectural work, including some abstracts. Still, shooting like I did during the first trip was a nice break from my usual subject matter and approach to photography. I think some variety can definitely be a good thing from time to time.
The building is in reasonable shape but there are a number of holes in the walls or ceiling which let in a lot of fantastic natural light. Since I’m a big fan of working with natural light the building played right along allowing enough light to let me shoot hand held for the most part although in some areas it required a high enough ISO and large enough aperture.
There are plenty more photos from this trip in the corresponding gallery however instead of putting the gallery in this post like usual I will link to it because I would like to keep the articles work friendly and clean for those under 18. To view the full gallery just follow this link.
