2009 PhotoPlus has come and gone, and the current economic conditions have definitely taken their toll on the show. Some brands didn’t bother to show and there was less free swag than last year. Still, not a bad show and it was nice to check out some of the new toys as always!
My last post already got the ball rolling on covering what we did at the show. Bruce’s 1D Mark IV high ISO samples have received a lot of views on Flickr and I only wish I knew he was doing it at the time to add D3s samples to the mix! On top of that, Bruce was a lucky jerk for winning $500 for Mpix prints, something I could definitely use! I’ll have to put their 15% off discounts to use though, I have some prints I’ve been needing to make. While I was there I checked out the Canon G11 since I’ve been getting more and more interested in that camera. My main reaction to it is that I don’t like how it uses the rear control dial. I wish it had one by the shutter button like the G3 and it should really have the rotating control ring around the lens like the S90 IS has.
Like last year it was another long day, after the expo we stumbled across a Broncolor event in a building not far from the Javits center. After a very late lunch at Grimaldi’s pizza we worked our way back to the subway to return to Joe’s car. After our busy Friday we did some more shooting (without Bruce) on Saturday and Sunday. After our exploration of Ikea we worked together to create a Halloween themed shot in Joe’s very creepy basement. Sunday Joe, Lindsey and I met with a friend of Joe’s at Robert Moses State Park and did some shooting at the beach and later at a bay on the north side of Long Island.
