Rochester Incinerator

Andrew and I had been planning to spend the weekend checking out different locations and doing some photography & exploring.  On the 23rd we kicked off the weekend by stopping by several locations in Rochester.  We started with what is known as the War Store but it seemed to be falling apart rapidly.  Parts of the second floor, which I’m told was the most interesting part, had fallen down to the first floor.  Apparently the second floor had been questionable for quite some time and the collapse was probably recent.  We looked around for a few minutes but I didn’t take any photos.  We didn’t even take much time to look through the concrete silos next door before continuing back to the car.

Our next location was a brief but unsuccessful stop at a place affectionately known as crumbling storage where I slipped and slid on the mud.  For some reason I didn’t remember to put my boots on before leaving and was walking around in my sneakers with well worn tread… oops.

Fortunately our trip to the incinerator was very different from the rest of the day.  It was a definite success, not only did I have my boots and clean pants then, but we got in and were able to take our time walking through the buildings without too much worry about the ceiling falling on us.  Right before we left we went through the top floor of the incinerator building when the building decided to start shelling us with chunks of ice falling from the ceiling & roof thanks to the warm weather.  We made a point to rather carefully choose where we walked to avoid any parts of the ceiling that had much ice buildup.  Other than that, it was a nice location to explore and shoot at and I think may offer some potential for another visit.

To see some more from the incinerator, go to my set on Flickr.
