A bit over a week ago I went to Black Creek Park with Olivia and her assistant (aka boyfriend) and we trudged though more mud than anticipated to do some shooting. It was a fairly spur of the moment shoot, we really didn’t have a location planned or specific shots in mind but we had some ideas.
It turns out Black Creek Park is bigger than I had thought but the area you enter in to by road doesn’t cover much of it at all (maybe 10%). This public recreation area is the usual thing with playgrounds, pavilions and too much mowed grass.
To find a more suitable location we set off on a little hike and found ourselves crossing some muddy terrain to get there. I should have worn my boots, I don’t know why I didn’t. Fortunately my sneakers survived, just a little muddier than before but no permanent damage! I’ve never been in this end of this park before but I think I might have approached it from the opposite end once. That side is much more rural and natural (if it’s what I’m thinking it is) and I would probably start there for any future shoots. Had I been through the park before I would have also known how swampy much of it was, and would have known that boots were definitely a necessity. Had them in the car but by the time I realized that mistake we were already a ways off.
While we were out there we made friends with nature; there was one tiny little snake. I very nearly stepped on it but somehow noticed it just before I brought my foot down She wanted it to stay with her in the photo but it had other ideas and left as quickly as it could. The total amount of time we spent shooting wasn’t that long, we were slow to start, slow to arrive at a location and the cooling temperatures and approaching rain eventually drove Olivia to her stopping point.

Evidence of a rape kit or something to that effect (blood, bruises, hands tied) would be powerful for these images. Well done Carl.
