But the bruises, scrapes and limps will continue on.
Sunday, August 1st was the last day of the big yearly meet in Rochester, NY when people from all over converge to hang out, see the sights and take a picture or two. I didn’t see a lot and I didn’t shoot a lot but I’ve got the bruises, scrapes, bandage and hobble to make it look like I did a lot.
The whole thing started on Friday, July 30…
On Friday we met at the Scotland Yard pub in downtown Rochester before going on a tour of the subway. For some of us this is a familiar place but for many visitors it was all new. It’s sad to see that the construction work filling in the west end of the subway has left its mark on some of the other interesting things down there. Jenga is gone, as is the “crack house” and some of the walls and other structures that have been a part of the subway for years.
Saturday began, as most Rochester exploring days do, with a meet at Boulder Coffee at 10AM. From there everyone scattered to various locations. Against my better judgment I went out to a rather disappointing location to fill the brief window before the majority of us regrouped to go check out Rico Cave by the lower falls of the Genesee River in Rochester. Getting back out of Rico Cave and the gorge resulted in enough spills and tumbles for me for a while but it was fun and I got a couple of my favorite photos from the weekend while we were down there (such as the one at the top of this post).
After some time to recover & clean up we wrapped up Saturday with a nice cookout at Durand Eastman Park. Some people went on to do crazy things until the wee hours of the nights, some people slept in strange places, and others took off to head back to wherever they came from without telling anyone. After another 10AM meetup at Boulder Coffee on Sunday we again split in to groups and hit some more locations. I don’t know anything about those things because I felt like a bus had run me over and went back home where I promptly passed out. Later Sunday I managed to meet back up with some folks (including a couple of late-arriving Canadians) for dinner before parting ways again, leaving me here to start this post!
It definitely was not the best weekend for me but it was fun and I’m looking forward to next year’s big summer meet.

Summer never ended on the first of august when I was there
If only it really did! I’m ready for some cooler weather and less humidity.
